ABOUT Wild Alchemy Botanicals – natural skincare, human connection Meet the Maker I’m Sandra Moetara (Ngāti Korokoro, Te Roroa), founder and maker at Wild Alchemy Botanicals. Wild Alchemy Botanicals grew out of my work in clinical skin therapy — years spent assessing skin in treatment rooms, adjusting protocols, and observing how skin responds to products over time. With nearly two decades of hands-on clinical experience, I formulate with the same discipline I applied in practice. Nature, Environment and Early Context My earliest understanding of skin health didn’t come from textbooks or treatment rooms. It came from lived experience — learning early how skin responds to environmental exposure, stress, inflammation, and imbalance. Growing up with persistent skin conditions meant ongoing care rather than quick fixes. With limited conventional options available at the time, my family relied on what was accessible to us: the ocean, the land, and plant-based preparations that supported the skin gradually and consistently. Those experiences shaped how I think about skin to this day — not as something to control, but as something to support. Reducing inflammation, protecting the barrier, and allowing the skin the conditions it needs to recover remain foundational principles in how I formulate now. From Clinic to Creation Clinical practice teaches you that skin concerns rarely exist in isolation. Oil imbalance, breakouts, inflammation, pigmentation, dehydration, and premature ageing often overlap. Addressing them effectively requires formulations that can support more than one function at a time. My approach to formulation is ingredient-led and deliberately minimal. The botanicals I work with are selected for their breadth of function, not novelty. Many offer antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, barrier-supportive, and regenerative properties within a single botanical profile. Restraint matters. Fewer, well-chosen ingredients — combined thoughtfully and without unnecessary fillers — allow the skin to stabilise, recalibrate, and strengthen over time. Moving from clinic to creation allowed me to translate years of hands-on skin assessment into formulations designed for consistent, long-term skin health.
